30 Day D&D Challenge - Day 3

#3: Favorite playable class:

Oh, jeez.  Well, for a long, long time, it was Wizard.  1st edition, 2nd edition, 3rd edition, 3.5.  Wizard was my go-to class.  And let’s face facts, in those editions Wizards were, and are, the most powerful classes.

But then 4E rolls along.  And bam! wizards are a lot different.  In fact most classes are fairly well, equal.  I found a healthy interest in being a Leader.  Which is not Wizard.  They’re controllers.  I didn’t want damage, which would be sorcerers.

One thing I did notice in the older classes, especially clerics, they could not attack, and heal, in the same turn.  Wizards in the older versions could blast away, and decimate the enemies in the same action.  Clerics could attack or heal, but rarely both.

Now, they can attack an enemy, and with that attack, buff allies, and still heal an ally with a minor action,

Since 4e’s release in 2008, I’ve rarely played a wizard, but I’ve played a Cleric, Warlord, & Ardent.  I haven’t tried a bard, because they are slightly more slanted towards controller. If I want one of them, I’ll play a wizard.

I’ve not tried Shaman or Runepriest.  I’m not all that keen on the Primal source. Just isn’t me.  And the Runepriest looks weak, and a little flaky, to be honest.  A player in my group had one, and it wasn’t very effective, but that could have just been him.  I would like to try an Artificer. It looks really great at the buffing aspect for allies, but most DM’s want to restrict it to Eberron, and I’ve yet to play a game in that world.

So this is a half-n-half answer.  Wizards still have a nice place in my heart, but I like playing Leaders.

30 Day D&D Challenge

#2: Favorite Playable Race.  Well, I’m a human, so I find Humans easiest to play.  Actually, for 4e, I like the fact that you get a +2 where you want to put it, and the bonus At-Will, can come in handy.  The extra skill too is nice.

But human seems like a cop out, so I am also going to say Dwarf.  I like their personality, and stoic-ness.  The feat support in 3.5 & 4e is also pretty good. Dwarves are nice change from humans.

yournewfavoritesuperheroine asked: 73, 18, 80, 70, 39, 11, 85, 71, 72

73: You can only have one of these things; trust or love.

Love.  Without a doubt.

18: Do you believe in karma?

No.  Things sometimes happen purely by accident.

80: What size shoes do you wear?

Size 13 US.

70: Are you the kind of friend you would want to have as a friend?

Honestly, I like to think so.  I can be helpful in situation where my knowledge can be of use.

39: Do you drive? If so, have you ever crashed?

I do, and I have not.

11: Do you have any strange phobias?

I had one about skeletons when I was younger, but otherwise now, not so much.  Heights maybe, but that’s not all that strange.

85: What’s the last song you listened to?  John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High

71: You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late one more time you get fired. What do you do?

I get my ass to work. I can’t afford to lose my job over 1 dog.

72: You are at the doctor’s office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. a) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? b) What do you do with your remaining days? c) Would you be afraid?

A: Yes.  I want them to know I will be gone.
B: Quit my job, and  spend as much time as I can with my family.  Record videos for them to remember me by.
C: A little.  We all want to know what happens after we die.

Dungeons & Dragons 30 Day Challenge

Day #1: How did you get started?

My next door neighbor, Jon W. went on vacation do the Jersey Shore over Memorial Day weekend in 1981.  He came home with the game, and apparently read it on vacation.  He loved it, and showed it to me. (We were becoming buds.)

I had a healthy (?) interest in magic and fantasy at this time, and was immediately fascinated.  I also quickly realized this was a group game.  I got nearly the whole neighbor hood into the game.  The girls too.  It was downhill from there.  Runequest, MERP, Rolemaster, MSH, Car Wars, etc. etc. etc.
